Thinking about remodeling your kitchen? You're not alone. Kitchen renovations are consistently the most requested project we receive, and for good reason — the kitchen is the heart of the home. But before you start pulling up flooring samples and cabinet door swatches, it's worth understanding what kitchen remodels actually cost in our area.

The honest answer is: it depends. A lot. But here's a useful framework.

A cosmetic kitchen refresh — new countertops, fresh paint, updated hardware, and maybe a backsplash — typically runs $8,000 to $18,000 in the Hudson Valley. This is the "lipstick on a pig" category, which isn't meant as an insult. If your cabinet boxes are structurally sound and your layout works, a cosmetic update delivers a lot of impact for a relatively modest investment.

A mid-range kitchen renovation — new semi-custom cabinets, quartz or granite countertops, new flooring, updated lighting, and appliances — typically costs $30,000 to $55,000. This covers most of the full-service projects we complete, and it's where you start to see dramatic transformations.

A high-end or custom kitchen renovation — full custom cabinetry, premium stone countertops, professional-grade appliances, structural changes, and custom millwork — can easily run $65,000 to $100,000 or more. These are statement kitchens that significantly increase your home's value and livability.

What drives costs up? The biggest cost drivers are cabinetry (semi-custom runs $10,000–$30,000; full custom starts at $25,000), countertop material and square footage, whether you're changing the layout (which involves plumbing and electrical rough-in work), and appliance selection. A 48-inch professional range can cost more than an entire cosmetic kitchen refresh.

What drives costs down? Keeping your existing layout, choosing stock or semi-custom cabinets over full custom, selecting quartz over marble or exotic stone, and doing a phased renovation (counters now, floors later).

One thing worth noting: material costs in the construction industry have been volatile since 2020. Prices for lumber, cabinets, and appliances have shifted significantly. Getting a current, itemized written estimate from your contractor is the only reliable way to budget for a project.
